Meet Dr Shamila Moodley
Dr. Shamila Moodley has over 22 years of experience in treating mental health conditions. She specializes in the diagnosis and treatment of depression, anxiety, work-related issues, and stress. Dr Shamila is also very experienced in assessing and treating ADHD in adults, as well as women’s mental health in perimenopause and menopause.
Dr. Shamila feels privileged to form close relationships with her clients and use a collaborative approach to addressing their mental health needs that acknowledges the biological, psychological, and social impacts on mental health. She provides evidence-based integrative treatments with empathy in a personalized manner, using a holistic approach to treatment balanced with traditional methods, which may include extensive psychotherapeutic, pharmacological, and complementary therapies when appropriate.
Dr. Shamila has a pioneering approach to psychiatry; she has already introduced personalized medicine into her practice through pharmacogenetic Myogenes testing, which allows a more targeted and informed approach to medication choice. She was also one of the first consultant psychiatrists in London to use a leading medical device, Alpha-Stim – a safe and extremely well-tolerated and FDA-approved treatment for anxiety, depression, insomnia, and pain management. She is now interested in the new vagal nerve devices for stress, sleep, and anxiety management.
Background and Education
Dr. Shamila completed all her training at teaching hospitals in the highly competitive London area. She worked in the NHS at Chelsea and Westminster Hospital before transitioning to West London Mental Health Trust. She has led a “Crisis” Team and liaison service, an Assertive Outreach Team, and a Recovery Community Team. Dr. Shamila also practiced privately at The Nightingale in Marylebone for over ten years.
Dr. Shamila speaks French and conversational Spanish. In her free time, she practices Pilates, enjoys cultural activities, and travels.
