Meet Dr. Omar Elhaj
Dr. Omar Elhaj brings more than 25 years of clinical and executive leadership experience to his role as the Chief Medical Officer of APN Lodge. He is a member of the American Medical Association, the American Psychiatric Association, and the American Association for Physician Leadership. He is certified by the American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology in both adult and addiction psychiatry.
Background and Education
Dr. Elhaj earned his medical degree from Damascus University and completed his residency in general adult psychiatry at the University of Missouri at Kansas City School of Medicine, where he served as chief resident. He completed fellowships in addiction psychiatry, geriatric psychiatry, and a National Institute of Mental Health-sponsored research fellowship in therapeutics of bipolar mood disorders at Case Western Reserve University School of Medicine. Dr. Elhaj has served as co-principal investigator for several NIMH and industry-sponsored bipolar disorder studies and has presented throughout the country on various mental health issues.
In past roles, Dr. Elhaj served as the regional medical director with Telecare, senior medical director with LifeStance, senior consulting psychiatrist with Regroup, chief medical officer of Psychological and Behavioral Consultants, and medical director of the Veterans Addiction Recovery Center.
Dr. Elhaj has published thirty-seven peer-reviewed articles and book chapters. He currently holds the position of clinical assistant professor in the Department of Psychiatry at Case Western Reserve University School of Medicine and continues to be involved in teaching residents and fellows.
