HOW DOES DEEP TMS WORK?

Deep TMS uses electrical impulses to regulate your brain’s production of neurotransmitters, leading to improved mood and mental stability. Inside the helmet, BrainsWay’s unique, patented H-coil technology works to directly stimulate deeper and broader regions of the brain. At All Points North, we have three helmet options from BrainsWay, all with different coils. Each coil is uniquely designed to treat depression, anxiety and OCD, or smoking addiction.

WHAT DOES DEEP TMS TREAT?

BrainsWay’s Deep Transcranial Magnetic Stimulation is FDA-approved to treat:

  • Obsessive-Compulsive Disorder (OCD)
  • Major Depressive Disorder (MDD)
  • Smoking Addiction
  • Anxious Depression

Deep TMS is also CE-marked for the following treatments, though these are considered off-label use in the U.S.:

  • Bipolar Disorder
  • Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder
  • Schizophrenia
  • Alzheimer’s Disease
  • Autism
  • Chronic Pain
  • Multiple Sclerosis
  • Parkinson’s Disease
  • Post Stroke Rehabilitation

GET TREATED IN-PERSON

If you need to detox first, APN offers 24/7 medically supervised withdrawal management and detox at APN Denver, less than 30 minutes from Denver International Airport. When you start treatment, our comprehensive treatment team will develop a custom-curated treatment plan for your unique needs. APN Lodge is our primary location for residential and partial hospitalization treatment – with programs typically lasting 30+ days. You will work with a primary therapist one-on-one and join a vast array of tailored groups to help you navigate your past, present, and future. Your treatment plan will be determined based on your individual needs, and not all therapies will be right for everyone.

APN LODGE TREATMENT EXPERIENCE

When you pull up to APN Lodge, our world-class hospitality team will welcome you at the door, show you to your suite, and get you oriented with all the beautiful amenities the Lodge has to offer. Our treatment team will create your treatment plan by pulling from interventions including dialectical behavioral therapy (DBT), cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT), mindfulness, process groups, family therapy, family-of-origin work, psychoeducation, eye movement desensitization and reprocessing (EMDR), art therapy, music therapy, experiential therapy, and a variety of other modalities.

In addition to your typical schedule, you may be eligible for adjunctive therapies like Deep Transcranial Magnetic Stimulation (dTMS) or Hyperbaric Oxygen Therapy (HBOT) for additional work on depression, anxiety, OCD, or smoking cessation. These treatments are an additional cost but may be covered by your insurance. During your stay, you can enjoy great food, mountain views, indoor/outdoor pools, art therapy, weekly events, and a state-of-the-art fitness center. Plus, add-on massage therapy, facials, and fitness training.

Deep TMS sessions are safe, quick, effective, and generally well tolerated. At All Points North, a Deep TMS technician will oversee each session and answer any questions you might have before, during, and after the treatment. The number of sessions can vary, but you can expect each session to last about 20 minutes, with the initial consultation and brain mapping taking 60-90 minutes.

WHAT TO EXPECT DURING DEEP TMS

DEEP TMS TREATMENT PROCESS

  1. The process starts with a free call or live chat. A member of our contact center team will gather your information and send it along to our Deep TMS team.
  2. You will receive a call from a Deep TMS team member to assess your story and discuss treatment options. We’ll also run your insurance benefits, discuss payment, and take steps to see if you are qualified.
When you come in for your first treatment, a director or tech will meet with you for about 60-90 minutes to go over details, assess you further, discuss expectations, and map your brain.
  3. For each subsequent appointment, you’ll arrive at our location, take a seat in a comfortable chair and pop on the cushioned helmet for about 20 minutes.
  4. During treatment, you may hear and feel a slight repetitive tapping coming from within the helmet as the coil’s magnetic pulses activate different parts of the brain.
  5. After your session, you can head right back to your day, no downtime required.

THE RESEARCH ON DEEP TMS

Deep TMS has been tested in over 60 clinical studies for various indications in leading institutions all over the world, and it is FDA-approved for the clinical treatment of Major Depressive Disorder, OCD, anxious depression, and smoking cessation. Currently, Deep TMS is available in the US, Europe, and South America. Over 15,000 clients have been treated with BrainsWay Deep TMS already, and the research on its impact and conditions continues to grow.

DEEP TMS FOR DEPRESSION

Deep TMS is a non-invasive and convenient treatment option for those struggling with Major Depressive Disorder (MDD). Studies have shown the treatment to be effective for clients with depression, no matter how many medications have been tried or how many medications didn’t work. In fact, Deep TMS is often said to be effective for those with medication-resistant depression.

In real-life clinical settings, Deep TMS was proven to be effective for 3 out of 4 major depression clients with a 51% remission rate and a 75% response rate.

DEEP TMS FOR OCD

In addition to Deep TMS’s success for depression treatment, the FDA has also approved a Brainsway TMS helmet for treatment-resistant OCD. A real-life setting study in the Journal of Psychiatric Research found that over 70% of study clients experienced at least a 30% reduction in OCD symptom severity after 18.5 sessions. After 20 sessions, about 50% of study clients maintained that 30% or more severity reduction for a sustained period of time. In another study from the American Journal of Psychiatry, 54.8% of patients achieved at least a 20% reduction in symptom severity after six weeks of treatment.

DEEP TMS FOR SMOKING CESSATION

Deep TMS is the first and only FDA-approved non-invasive medical device for the treatment of smoking addiction. A study completed by BrainsWay showed that 28% of Deep TMS clients sustained abstinence from smoking for at least 4 consecutive weeks as compared to only 11.7% of control group clients. This study was double-blind, multi-center, and conducted with patients who had a 26-year smoking history. Deep TMS for smoking has been found to be well-tolerated for most clients.
