Running in Recovery
APN is proud to present our Virtual Speaker Series – an initiative to equip our clients and community with a wide variety of resources in mental health, addiction, and trauma recovery. In this installation of the Speaker Series, Christopher Heimerman shares his empowering story of overcoming alcohol addiction and how he lives life “a la carte” using various tools and resources to build his own recovery program.
About Christopher
Christopher Heimerman is a podcaster, writer, distance runner, and a relentless advocate for those battling addiction and mental illness. After years of hiding his drinking from his family, friends, and co-workers, he’s gone public with all the details of his story, from the pit of addiction to the story of redemption he’s writing and sharing every day. Christopher ran his fifth marathon on April 6, 2019, the day after he was discharged from rehab for alcohol addiction, and that afternoon he began writing his memoir “40,000 Steps.” In November 2020, he launched the podcast 40,000 Steps Radio, which features a wide variety of guests, from brothers and sisters in recovery, to counselors, to ultra-marathoners.
Christopher shares his experience with recovery and how he chooses to live life a la carte, using the tools that work for him and make him feel empowered. In sharing his story, Christopher invites us all to reflect on how we can show up authentically as our true selves.
Before working full-time in the field of counseling, Steve served as a United Methodist minister for over 20 years. He has spent his life helping people from all backgrounds to navigate the twists and turns of life with confidence, wonder, and purpose.
