FAMILY VISITING POLICY AT ALL POINTS NORTH
SUPPORTING A LOVED ONE IN RECOVERY
When someone you love begins treatment, it’s natural to wonder if you’ll be able to see them.
Staying connected matters so much to you and your loved one. We want you to feel included every step of the way. At All Points North, we thoughtfully plan visits to help your loved one heal, while also ensuring they have the space and support they need. Each visit is a chance for both of you to find hope and encouragement together.
OUR CLINICAL PHILOSOPHY ON VISITATION
Early recovery is a delicate time for the body and mind. During these first steps, it’s important that the client has enough space to settle, find their footing, and start building the skills that will help them move forward.
At All Points North, we know that connection matters. While we allow visitation, we understand that every situation is unique. The client and therapist work with families to decide what’s best, while prioritizing the client’s needs and well-being.
WHEN VISITS TYPICALLY HAPPEN
EARLY PHASE OF TREATMENT
At the start of treatment, especially during detox or the first days as your loved one settles in, visitation is usually minimal.
This gives your loved one space to settle in, focus on grounding, adjust to the new environment, and start therapy without feeling overwhelmed by external pressures.
ONGOING TREATMENT
As your loved one progresses in their recovery, visits tend to become more frequent and easier to arrange.
At this stage, visits are planned, held during specific visiting hours, and coordinated with the treatment schedule. This way, visits can support the healing process without interfering with important care.

WHY VISITING IS STRUCTURED
Treatment is a process that requires time and attention. Early on, individuals adjust physically, emotionally, and mentally as they begin important clinical work. Because of this, visits are not immediate or unrestricted.
Having structure around visitation helps in a few important ways:
- Keeps the environment calm and free from distractions, which is important for clients at the beginning of treatment.
- Helps clients set healthy emotional boundaries while they’re starting out.
- Gives clients a chance to make progress before returning to social situations.
The goal is to support your loved one’s healing while ensuring you stay connected and involved.
VISITATION GUIDELINES & POLICIES
WHAT TO EXPECT WHEN YOU VISIT
We want everyone to feel safe and supported, so we ask all visitors to follow a few important guidelines during their time with us.
1. Please schedule your visit in advance: We cannot accommodate drop-in visits, so all visits must be approved by our clinical team and scheduled at least 48 to 72 hours in advance. This helps your visit fit smoothly into your loved one’s therapy schedule and ensures everyone gets the support they need.
2. Approved visitor list: When your loved one is admitted, they’ll tell us who they want to visit. Only people on this list can come to campus. This protects everyone’s privacy and ensures visits are supportive and safe.
3. Visiting hours: Most visits are on weekends, though times vary by All Points North location. When you arrive, check in at the front desk and bring a photo ID.
WHAT YOU CAN (AND CANNOT) BRING
To keep our campus safe and drug-free, our security team will check any bags or items you bring. Here’s what you need to know about what you can and cannot bring:
PROHIBITED ITEMS:
- Any product containing alcohol (mouthwash, hand sanitizer, etc.)
- Tobacco, vaping devices, or e-cigarettes (All Points North is a smoke-free facility)
- Outside food or beverages (unless specifically cleared for dietary needs)
- Medications (even over-the-counter vitamins) without prior medical approval
- Weapons of any kind
- Inappropriate or triggering reading material
- Anything that may interfere with treatment
APPROVED ITEMS:
- Personal notes or letters
- Unframed family photographs
- Journals or stationery
- Greeting cards
- Comfortable, appropriate clothing (if requested by the client)
BEYOND THE VISIT: FAMILY INVOLVEMENT AT APN
A visit is just the beginning. At All Points North, we know healing is a team effort, and families play a huge part in that process. That’s why we offer our Family Therapy Program, a virtual space to connect, work through challenges together, and support your loved one with their therapist, wherever life takes you.
With weekly one-hour sessions on our secure APN Connection app, it’s simple to stay involved. You can join from anywhere, so you never miss a chance to support your loved one and be part of their progress every step of the way.
HOW TO SUPPORT YOUR LOVED ONE DURING A VISIT
Your presence truly matters. How you show up for your loved one can make a difference in how supported they feel.
Here are a few ways you can offer meaningful support during your visit:
- Keep your conversations positive and focused on the present, rather than dwelling on the past or worrying about the future.
- Let go of the urge to judge or push for answers. Your loved one will feel safest when they know you accept them as they are.
- Listen more than you talk. Sometimes, sitting with your loved one and letting them share what’s on their mind is the most healing thing you can do.
Remember, even small, steady gestures of support can add up and mean a lot over time.

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
Can I visit immediately after admission?
Not always. Most programs have an initial adjustment period to help your loved one settle in before visits start. This gives them a chance to get comfortable and begin their recovery journey with fewer distractions.
Can I visit during medical detox?
No, visits aren’t allowed during medical detox. This stage is intense, and your loved one needs time to focus on stabilizing both physically and emotionally. Giving them this space helps set the foundation for their recovery.
How often can I visit?
How often you can visit depends on the specific program and how your loved one is doing. Visits are usually scheduled ahead of time and have some structure to ensure everyone feels supported.
What happens if a visit becomes stressful?
Our staff is always there to help keep visits positive and supportive. If things start to feel overwhelming or stressful, they may step in or end the visit early to make sure your loved one’s well-being comes first.
Can I use my cell phone during the visit?
To protect everyone’s privacy, we ask that you not use your cell phone during visits. Please leave your phone in your car or with our staff at the front desk.
Can multiple family members visit at once?
There might be some limits on how many family members can visit at once. This helps keep the environment calm and comfortable for everyone.
What if my loved one isn’t ready for visitors yet?
