Malibu Surf IOP – Heal the Mind, Body, and Spirit
At the core of APN Malibu is the Surf IOP, which uniquely combines group therapy with guided surf sessions out on the water.
This program combines clinical care with engaging, hands-on activities, such as surfing, helping you build emotional balance, resilience, and a strong sense of connection.
You’ll attend treatment several days a week, participate in therapy sessions, and join surf activities as a key part of your recovery journey.
Insurance for the Malibu Surf IOP
The Malibu Surf IOP is an accredited intensive outpatient program, the same billing and coverage category as traditional IOP. When you have PPO insurance with out-of-network benefits, APN Malibu submits claims directly to your insurer for the clinical components of the program.
The surf therapy component is integrated into the clinical program as an experiential therapeutic modality. This is clinically sound and widely recognized in trauma and recovery research.
However, individual insurance plans may categorize specific services differently. Our insurance team will clarify exactly what is covered during your benefit verification process.
How Insurance Works for the Surf IOP
If you have a PPO insurance plan, the process is simple. First, you’ll need to meet your out-of-network deductible. After that, your insurance usually covers 60% to 80% of the allowed charges.
You’ll be responsible for the remaining costs. Before you begin treatment, we’ll review your insurance plan and provide a clear, personalized estimate of your out-of-pocket costs. We use actual numbers, not estimates or averages.
If you’re a veteran with TriWest, your approved services may be covered at a higher rate than most standard insurance plans.
